Description

Side-by-side color study  I earmarked this reference for an exercise on inking hair.  Never thought, seriously, of painting it.  But, there it was, sitting on my desk over a month when I just finished a commented saying I needed to bone up on painting with reference.  So.  LOL.  Painting it was far more challenging than inking it, Yet it wasn't as difficult as I imagined it would be.

I could spend forever playing with it, but for the purpose of exercise, I'd say it's done.  (Reminds me of late 50s early 60s commercial sign and poster art, which I like.)  Considering that I did it all at once, with breaks for food and a little television time, it shows the progress.  Not only on the technical end, but in terms of the painting "head."  Really have developed patience, resolve and confidence.  This felt "routine."  All part of the day's work.  No panic attacks, no getting flustered, no big surprises.  Just plodding along until I want to stop.  Like, now.  Haha.  Amazed at the likeness, considering the complete lack of planning and that I launched into it without any initial measurements for size and placement.  (Yeah, sounds amazing, except that it took some digital monkeying and repainting midway through to correct the initial mistakes! I doubled the work by not measuring at the outset.)

I know there are painters out there who think this is at the stage where they could start having fun with the rendering.  And one day I hope to be counted among them.  All things in good time.  Rome wasn't built in a day.

My first thought while looking at your piece "I want that shampoo!". Volume, gloss, wavy, love it! It's an impressive exercise.
